Unique Collaboration Key in Attack on Cancer

The Bridge Project collaboration between the Koch Institute at MIT in Cambridge and the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) in Boston awarded funding to four interdisciplinary teams on March 6, 2012. The teams will work together on two of the most lethal forms of cancer: glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, and pancreatic cancer.  The unprecedented clinical research effort awards teams made up of biologists, bioengineers and clinical researchers from both cancer centers. It is the most extensive collaboration of its kind between metro-Boston's two National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers. read more
 

AAAS Names Phillip Sharp President-Elect for 2013

KI member, Nobel Laureate, and Institute Professor Phillip Sharp has been named President-Elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and will begin a one year term in February 2013. The international organization is dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson, and professional association.  read more

Tiny Sponge-Like Spheres to Deliver Cancer Treatment

KI researchers have found a way to pack RNA into microspheres to knock down the expression of specific genes. The delivery system's dense arrangement prevents degradation until it reaches its target, holding promise for cancer therapeutics and other chronic diseases. The findings are reported in the February 26th edition of Nature Materials. read more

Implantable Device Succeeds in Clinical Trial

A new implantable drug delivery device demonstrated encouraging clinical results and may herald a new era of telemedicine. Two KI Professors along with scientists from MICROCHIPS report their findings in February 16th issue of Science Translational Medicine. read more

KI's Associate Director Dane Wittrup Elected to NAE

K. Dane Wittrup was one of five MIT engineers recently elected to the National Academy of Engineering. The election is one of the highest professional honors awarded to engineers.  read more
